The Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) adopted at the end of 2018 will come into force on 1 July 2021. Last year, REDcert submitted an application for the REDcert-EU scheme to by recognised by the European Commission under RED II.
At present, REDcert – like all other EU-approved certification schemes – is still undergoing the recognition process. There are various reasons, over which REDcert has only limited influence. On the one hand, REDcert had to make changes to content, but it was possible to implement them quickly. On the other hand, some “implementing acts” of the European Commission are still pending for final recognition of the certification schemes. The certification schemes cannot influence when they will be published.
At the current time, REDcert has successfully completed the Commission’s evaluation of the content of the scheme requirements – to the extent that this is possible due to the pending specifications that have not yet been published. However, it will not be possible to complete the recognition process on time and in its entirety by 30 June 2021 due to the above-mentioned reasons.
Starting 1 July 2021, however, all scheme participants in the REDcert-EU scheme must implement the new RED II requirements in their companies.
We have published the scheme principles, which have so far been assessed positively by the European Commission, on our website at https://www.redcert.org/redcert-systeme/systemdokumente.html. The scheme documents apply from 1 July 2021 and are currently only available in English. Further translations will follow shortly.
For better orientation, we have created a short presentation and summarised the main changes in a table.
