Clarification on NUTS2 Values
It is well known that for 14 out of 37 NUTS2 regions in Germany, values exist for both mineral and organic soils, which differ significantly. We have repeatedly highlighted the challenges in verifying the correct NUTS2 value and have presented possible solutions.
Currently, there are market rumors suggesting that REDcert has accepted flat-rate values (e.g. 5%) for the share of biomass from organic soils in NUTS2 regions. We hereby clarify that this is not the case.
We continue to work towards obtaining valid, ideally officially confirmed flat-rate values by the 2026 harvest and will inform stakeholders once this goal has been achieved.
Until then, biomass from the 14 affected NUTS2 regions must either be accompanied by a clear statement on soil type (mineral or organic) provided by the producer in the self-declaration, or – if available – be assigned the corresponding partial default value according to RED.
